John O'Connor - Chief Investment Officer, CEO

John O’Connor joined Battery Ventures in 2001 to start and manage an internal family office. From 2001 through 2004, he designed custom portfolios and advised the senior partners on their personal investment strategies. He also had direct investment responsibility for the firm's defined benefit plan. In early 2005, the firm created Battery Global Advisors to put an institutional framework around the investment process. In April 2005, BGA launched an opportunistic equity strategy using an endowment model. In May of 2009, BGA launched an income strategy focused on preservation of capital. Since inception of the investment strategies John has functioned as the Chief Investment Officer with primary responsibility for the execution of all investments and operations.

Previously, John was a Vice President with the Boston-based financial consulting firm RINET Company, Inc. From 1991 through 1997, John held several positions at the regional CPA firm Rooney, Plotkin & Willey (Acquired by Tofias, PC), most recently as an audit manager. John has a BS in Accounting from Bryant University and was a licensed CPA. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Philip Bullen - Chairman

Philip Bullen has been affiliated with BGA since 2008 as an employee, director, and advisor. He has over 35 years of experience in the asset management industry as both a President/CEO and Chief Investment Officer. He was Group Chief Investment Officer of Fidelity Management & Research Company where during his tenure he was responsible for US Core, Capital Appreciation, and Growth funds, and prior to that all institutional assets, international equities, and real estate. Previously he was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Santander Global Advisors, a boutique global money management company with assets in excess of $1.8bn under management. He started in the asset management business in 1977 with Baring Asset Management and during his time with the firm managed US and international equity mandates. He specialized in asset allocation and using quantitative techniques to add value to the investment process. At the end of his career at Baring Asset Management he was President of Baring Asset Management Inc. and responsible for all of the group’s investment management activities in North America.

Mr. Bullen is a member of the investment committee at The Whitehead Institute of Biomedical Research, he is on the board of directors of Aviva US, and he is an advisor to The Man Group. He previously chaired the investment committee at Boston University and was a member of the investment committee at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He has an MBA from the City University Business School, London and is a CFA® charterholder.

Alex Cobb - Director of Investments

Alex joined Battery Global Advisors in 2012 with seventeen years of experience in the investment business. Most recently, he was a Partner and Head of the East Coast business for IWP Wealth, a multi-family office with over $750 million of assets under advisory.  Before that, he spent three years as a senior equity analyst with Fidelity Management and Research, where he managed the Technology and Energy segments of the Fidelity Small Cap Opportunities Fund. He interacted on a daily basis with CEOs and CFOs of multi-billion dollar companies. For seven years before that, Alex was an equity analyst for the Raptor hedge fund at Tudor Investments in Boston. Prior to that, Alex worked in the Equity Research departments of Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan. Alex currently serves as a Director and Treasurer for the Agawam Council in Maine. A CFA® charterholder, he earned a B.A. from Middlebury College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Daniel Burns - Chief Financial Officer & Chief Compliance Officer

Dan joined Battery Global Advisors in 2008. As the Chief Financial Officer he is responsible for accounting, reporting and other related operational areas for both the firm and its funds. He also provides support in asset allocation, risk management and other aspects of investment analysis. In 2013, Dan became the Chief Compliance Officer, responsible for the firm’s compliance program. Prior to joining BGA, Dan was an auditor at KPMG and an internal auditor at Barclays Capital. Dan holds a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the NYU Stern School of Business. He is also a CPA.

Matya Schachter - Senior Investment Analyst

Matya Schachter joined Battery Global Advisors in 2011 and is responsible for identifying and evaluating attractive investment opportunities and conducting research to determine optimal asset, strategy and sector allocations.  Additionally, he helps monitor risk exposure and evaluate current and potential manager performance.  Previously, working within Harvard Management Company’s internal trading team, Matya analyzed equities and derivatives strategies. From 2005 through 2007, Matya traded various fixed income products for Susquehanna International Group, a private proprietary trading group. A member of the Boston Security Analysts Society, Matya has an SB in Physics from M.I.T. and is a CFA® charterholder.

David Rothenhaus - Senior Investment Analyst

David Rothenhaus joined Battery Global Advisors in 2016 and is responsible for identifying and evaluating opportunities and conducting research within the fixed income and alternative income markets. His responsibilities include researching current and potential investment managers along with advising on general fixed income allocations. Prior to BGA, David spent ten years working in the Private Banking division of Credit Suisse as a Senior Fixed Income Trader focusing on rates and credit products. Before that he spent four years working for Bloomberg LP as a Senior Account Representative and Fixed Income Product Specialist. David has a BS in Finance and MIS from the University at Albany and an MBA in Finance from the Baruch College Zicklin School of Business.

Nam Nguyen - Junior Investment Analyst

Nam Nguyen joined Battery Global Advisors in 2015 and is responsible for analyzing investment opportunities across multiple asset classes and assisting with other ad hoc projects on fund operations and family office clients. Prior to joining BGA, Nam held various internships at G2 Capital Advisors, Traub Capital Management, and PepsiCo Inc. A member of the Boston Security Analysts Society, Nam holds a BS in Finance from the National Economics University in Vietnam and an MA in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University. He is a Level I CFA® candidate.

John Dinneen - Director of Financial and Estate Planning

John joined Battery Global Advisors in 2007 as the Director of Financial and Estate Planning for the firm’s Family Office. Prior to BGA, John worked in public accounting for 17 years, most recently as a Tax Principal at DiCicco, Gulman & Company, LLP. Previously, John was a Senior Tax Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and earlier in his career, a Senior Auditor for BDO Seidman.

During his career as a CPA, John specialized in providing tax advice to closely-held, entrepreneurial and family-owned businesses. He has worked extensively with the high net worth owners and families of his business clients, assisting them with their individual, family, trust and charitable tax planning needs. John received a BS with honors in Accountancy from Boston College and a JD from Boston College Law School. He is a current member of the AICPA, Massachusetts Society of CPAs, and Boston Estate Planning Council.

Erik Berge - Senior Tax & Estate Planning Associate

Erik joined Battery Global Advisors in 2017 and has over ten years of experience working with successful individuals and families on all matters of their financial lives. He brings an expertise in tax planning and compliance, estate planning, life insurance, and retirement planning. Prior to joining BGA, Erik spent seven years at GW & Wade, a full-service private wealth advisory firm in Wellesley, MA. He has held the Series 7 general securities license as well as the Series 66 Securities Agent & Investment Advisor Representative license and was admitted to both the Massachusetts and Connecticut bars. Erik holds a BA in English and Visual Arts from the College of the Holy Cross and earned a JD from Suffolk University Law School.

Hillel Moskovits - BGA Israel

Hillel Moskovits joined Battery Global Advisors in 2014 to help serve BGA’s clients in Israel. He has primary responsibility for accounting and reporting for BGA’s Israeli clients, and liaises with various BGA and client contacts in Israel. Hillel received his BS in accounting from Yeshiva University and began his professional career at Deloitte & Touche in New York. He relocated to Israel with his family in 2002 where he earned his MBA at Bar-Ilan University. Hillel is a US CPA with extensive experience with both American and Israeli tax law. Prior to joining BGA, Hillel spent seven years at Israel’s leading US tax firm advising high net worth individuals and venture capitalists.

Allison Drushella - Client Advisor

Allison joined Battery Ventures as a member of the administration team in 2010. In 2011, she transitioned to Battery Global Advisors as an Associate. In her current role as Client Advisor, she is responsible for the family office’s reporting process, client cash flow planning, and daily operations. She also assists with marketing and investor relations for the firm’s managed funds. Allison graduated with a BS from Elon University, and is working towards her CFP® designation through Boston University.

Lindsay Zappala - Client Advisor

Lindsay joined Battery Global Advisors in 2016 as a Client Advisor on the Family Office team. Previously, she worked as a Relationship Management Associate at Crestwood Advisors, an investment management and wealth advisory firm. Lindsay began her career in Mutual Fund Operations at Eaton Vance Management, a global investment manager. Lindsay holds a BA in Economics from the University of Delaware. Lindsay is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and sits on the board of the Financial Planning Association as the Director of Career Development. She is also a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council.

Kristin Griffin - Associate Client Advisor

Kristin Griffin joined Battery Global Advisors in 2016 as an Associate Client Advisor on the Family Office team. Previously, Kristin worked as an Associate Client Advisor on the Client Advisory & Wealth Planning team at Boston Private Wealth, a registered investment adviser providing comprehensive wealth management and investment advisory services. Kristin graduated with a BSBA in Finance from Elon University. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association and is currently working toward her CFP® designation through Boston University.

Rick Frisbie - Advisor

Rick founded Battery Ventures more than 25 years ago. In his current role with Battery Ventures, Rick acts principally as an advisor on the overall management and strategy of the firm. His current portfolio responsibilities are concentrated in the telecom sector. Rick’s prior investments include Allegiance Telecom (NASDAQ: ALGX), Cbeyond (NASDAQ: CBEY), Concord Communications (NASDAQ: CCRD), MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS), Zayo Bandwidth, and Network Equipment Technologies and several mobile communications investments that became part of Nextel Communications (NASDAQ: NXTL).

Rick has served on numerous private and public company boards, and has also been a member of the Board of Directors of both the New England Venture Capital Association and the National Venture Capital Association. Prior to founding Battery, Rick spent six years in venture capital at UNC Ventures and two years in law at Hutchins and Wheeler. Rick holds an AB in Government from Harvard College and a JD from Harvard Law School.

Morris Smith - Advisor

Morris Smith began his professional career in 1982 as an analyst at Fidelity Investments where he covered lodging, gaming and all of the housing-related industries. After several years he was promoted to manager of the Fidelity Select Leisure Fund and then the Fidelity Over-the-Counter Fund. In 1990, Morris was selected to take over for Peter Lynch in managing Fidelity’s largest and most successful fund at the time, the Magellan Fund. Magellan posted very strong returns and assets under management grew from $13b to $20b before Morris retired from Fidelity in 1992. After leaving Fidelity, Morris moved with his family to Israel to pursue religious studies. He and his family now reside in New York where he spends his time studying, managing his personal capital, and working with various charitable organizations. Morris received his undergraduate degree from Queens College and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Tony Kreisel - Advisor

With more than 38 years of investment experience, Tony Kreisel is currently a trustee and chairman of the Investment Committee at Franklin & Marshall College. He also served as an advisor of the Investment Policy Committee at Edward Jones from 2001 to 2011.  Mr. Kreisel retired from Putnam Investments as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer, Large Cap Value Equity Group, in March 2000. He led a team responsible for managing over $50 billion in assets. Concurrent with the CIO position he managed the Growth and Income II Fund and Institutional Large Cap Value portfolios. He previously co-managed The Putnam Fund for Growth and Income and The Putnam Convertible Fund. Mr. Kreisel joined Putnam in 1987, was a member of Putnam’s Management and Executive Committees and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. After receiving his BA in economics at Franklin & Marshall College and his MBA in finance from Columbia University he served for three years in the US Army.
